Around Town: Adams Avenue Folk & Roots Festival
Don't judge me. I know this is really ridiculously late but I've been busy this week tossing coin after coin to make a decision about our trip to Guadalajara. Decision made. We canceled everything this morning. Damn Swine Flu! To be honest, I don't feel like it's a huge deal but a) we have a layover in Mexico City, which is the epicenter of it all and b) they're basically shutting down the whole city, which means no markets and no restaurants. I'm devastated because we're missing one of our best friend's wedding but there will be other trips, I'm sure.
Anyway... last Sunday we walked down the street to grab a coffee and to peruse the street fair. We stumbled upon a nice little band and hung around a bit to watch. Next thing we knew, the band's set ended and the announcer came up to let us know that Chris Hillman would be performing next. That would be Chris Hillman of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers. Talk about luck! We stayed and enjoyed some lovely 3-part harmony, which included renditions of "Turn Turn Turn," "8 Miles High," "Wheels," "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere," and "The Christian Life." The sun was shining, the music was divine and I ate kettle corn while the hubs devoured a hot link. What an amazing Sunday:)
