I am writing today in full support of train travel. Last weekend I took a very lovely train ride from Sacramento to San Francisco and it was easy, cheap and incredibly relaxing! For $25 I didn't have to sit in traffic, pay attention to drivers around me or worry about getting pulled over for talking on a cell phone or speeding. Instead I read a book and took a catnap. I would love to plan a train trip up the coast this summer... maybe for a weekend in Santa Barbara when it's not on fire?? I highly recommend looking into this option for a summer getaway... it's far more economical and environmentally sound than driving your gas guzzler.
