Wine & Dine: What the Wheelers are Eating
In honor of Thanksgiving, I'm going to let you in on what we've been eating. Then I'm gonna sign off for the week to drive up to Sac-Town for Turkey Day and my Dusty's 30th birthday. Wowza!
Ok here's where we've ventured to masticate lately:
Zia Gourmet Pizza, Adam's Avenue: The pizza here is out of this world! As Durino was saying, you have to go there and pretend you're not going to eat pizza... keep an open mind if you're expecting New York or Chicago style. If you're just expecting deliciousness in your mouth, Zia is it! We call ahead and pick up the Potato Pizza. Roasted rosemary potatoes, garlic, scallions, feta, cream cheese and mozzerella on top of homemade whole wheat crust = amazingness.
Burger Lounge, Kensington: The veggie burgers here are made from Quinoa (keen-wa) and I get the baby sized, topped with grilled onions. Dusty loves him a grass-fed cow burger and I steal his onion rings and fries. Their salads are also amazing and filled with all kinds of good stuff... jicama, white corn, cucumbers, tomatoes and daikon! When we go with Araby, there are always red velvet cupcakes involved and those are also ridic. In my humble opinion, these are the best burgers in town... expensive but delish!
Andre's Restaurant, Morena Blvd.: We just tried this place out last night with the Durinos. We couldn't help but make real American pigs of ourselves... the food was delish! I was a big fan of their black beans. You'd think that eating them every day would make me sick of them but I don't think that will ever happen... I heart me some black beans and rice! We got one dish of each type of meat: chicken, pork, beef and fish. I'd be lying if I said I remembered all the names. I can only tell you with certainty that we got tostones and Dusty wants to wash his face in the tostone sauce AND that we got The Dirty Clothes (aka the ropa vieja.) If you like mexican food but want to mix it up with some different spices and flavors, I think you'll like Cuban food and Andre's Restaurant!
