Hey!

So glad you stopped by! I’m a stylist + the owner of Gunn & Swain. This is my life + style blog where I talk about my creative projects, women who inspire me, new product launches, my home and family, and my love for San Diego and Southern California living.

Around Town: Your town, My town, Anytown USA

A lovely gal from my work directed my attention to a fantastic site that features Americana on a few different, kitschy/amazing levels.  The first feature I would like to showcase is their collection of vintage Motels, specifically in California.  There are some amazing vintage pieces of work in other states but I like to picture what my beautiful state looked like before it got so damn crowded.

Disneyland has a few rides that still hang on to their vintage flair.  If Walt ever decideds to spruce up the Matterhorn, I will stage a protest.  That ride must always feel like you're in the Alps in the 60s.  Always.  The Skyview below makes me think of people who went on the Matterhorn when it was new-fangled and cost them an E Ticket.

This beauty is said to have been located in San Diego.  I'm guessing Point Loma/Shelter Island... what do you think?

My aunt, uncle and cousins live in Riverside... they'll be happy that I'm featuring their 'hood via this lovely time capsule.  My uncle will also be happy if I share this gem of knowledge with you... did you know that Etta James is from Riverside?  That's the gal who sings At Last.  Not Beyonce... Etta James.

This final work of Americana Art is in my hometown of Sacramento.  I think I might now where it's located and still in existence.  If I'm not mistaken, it now offers hourly rates.  If you know what I mean.

I highly recommend browsing through other states on this site.  The commentary is witty and the photos are perfect if you're nostalgic for early Americana.
