I really am not a big fan of most reggae. It mostly is repetitive and sounds the same -- like it's fueled by pot and not soul. I think that's a newer thing because older reggae from the 60s and 70s really rules... hello, Jimmy Clif, I'm talking to you! I happened upon this Derrick Morgan song, which is really considered early ska. Ahh ska. The good 'ol days of my youth spent listening to Op Ivy... but that's another story. You can definitely hear the tones of what progressed into popular ska and reggae: the horns, the beat. But this has soul, which is why I like it:
