Jacques Cousteau was not just the inspiration behind The Life Aquatic or even Wes Anderson's use of our beloved Futura (see film below.) He was a great caretaker and spokesman (and explorer, ecologist, filmmaker, innovator, scientist, photographer, author and researcher*) of the sea and of preserving our earth for future generations... though he thought our chances for survival beyond the next 100 years or so was bleak given the sh*tty job we've done so far.
His films are truly inspiring and beautiful:
Though he passed away in 1997, his legacy lives on through the Cousteau Society, of which you can become a member today for the low low price of $30 but if you donate $100+, you'll get your very own red cap! Or you can just sign his petition to save the whales.
