HOLSEM COFFEE // A NORTH PARK COFFEE SHOP THAT'S NOT INTIMIDATING

I like coffee because I'm a mom and small business owner and I don't get much sleep. I like the routine of it in the morning and probably microwave my cup like 5 times until I finish it during Gram's morning nap. I drink it plain black and I have no idea what it means to have something roasted in one region over another or how to make an Americano or any other fancy drink. I do know that Starbuck's coffee is kinda bitter and fancy coffee shops intimidate me. That's about it.

A few weeks ago, Holsem Coffee invited me in to try out some of their drinks and I was super excited to give it a shot (get it?!) Heading over to the newest, hippest coffee joint in town, I was stoked (because I love coffee) but intimidated because I don't know anything about this delicious beverage. Upon meeting the owner, Muna, I knew I had no reason to be nervous. She was as sweet as could be and explained the flavors and varieties and recommended a few different flavors for me to sample based on my preference for a lighter flavor.

Here's what I learned: Coffee from a cold brew tap is delicious and adds a slight fizz. It almost tastes like Guinness. Also, they don't use any artificial sweeteners or refined sugars in their drinks, just agave, maple or evaporated cane sugar.

Here's what I tried:
Yirgacheffe cold brew -- fruity floral flavor
Nutella Cold Brew Creation -- dark chocolate with homemade hazelnut milk -- as AMAZING as it sounds
Kenya -- really light with a lemon-y flavor
